What is Autoimmune Disease?

Updated: Nov 20, 2018

What is known about autoimmune disease is that an autoimmune response develops when the body’s immune system mistakes its own body tissues or organs as foreign invaders and attacks them. There are more than 80 identifiable autoimmune diseases and they affect nearly all human organ systems, along with connective tissue, gastrointestinal and endocrine systems, nerves and muscles, and more.

Some of the most common autoimmune diseases are:

· Rheumatoid arthritis

· IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease - including Crohn's and ulcerative colitis)

· MS (Multiple Sclerosis)

· Lupus (Systemic Lupus Erythematosus)

· Type 1 diabetes

· Allergies

· Grave's disease

· Pernicious anemia

· Inflammation of the thyroid gland (Hashimoto's disease)

· Psoriasis

Dr. Dave and his team at Oasis Integrative Medicine specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of pain and other medical disorders that are a result of stresses, toxins, inflammation, allergies, DNA abnormalities, infections, hormonal imbalances and the excessive strains of everyday life. Dr. Dave’s approach is unique, comprehensive, efficient and effective.

Anyone who is suffering from an autoimmune disease would do well to consider trying a holistic protocol, especially since western and conventional medicine has little to offer in the way of effective treatments. Allergy testing, nutritional counseling, nutraceuticals, detoxification programs and other supportive therapies are helpful. It's very important to determine why the body’s immune system is attacking the body.
